Our work · Initiatives

Ideas from young people, tangible results.

Planting, consulting, mobilising, researching, innovating: discover the programmes through which Congolese youth are taking action to protect biodiversity.
Where do our initiatives come from?

Each programme stems from our Strategic Plan 2026–2031, based on the priorities expressed by more than 5,000 young people from all the provinces of the DRC.

Trees for Towns 🌳

Native trees for more liveable cities. Trees for Towns is a youth-led tree-planting programme, which is launching in the city of Bukavu with Trees for Bukavu.

The trees planted around the town protect the soil from erosion, help regulate water, provide shade and offer a habitat for wildlife. Young people are involved at every stage: choosing the species, planting and monitoring.

The aim is to extend the initiative to other cities in the DRC, building on our tree-planting projects in Kisangani from 2019 and in Bukavu in 2021, in partnership with the WWF.

Governance

The voice of young people in the SPANB

An unprecedented national consultation. In 2026, more than 5,000 young people from every province shared their commitment to and expectations regarding biodiversity.

A community-led initiative run by young people. We are developing a framework to enable young people to monitor the implementation of the SPANB 2025–2030 and the DRC’s forestry commitments. A national workshop is being organised in Kinshasa to launch this initiative with our partners.
